Dr. Kleider's interest in these areas originated from discovering that certain lamenesses in the forelimb that didn't block out originated from lower neck pain diagnosed by ultrasound and neck x-rays. Similarly hind limb problems may be back related.
Yes, we can diagnose and treat neck and back issues!
Clinical exam: As for a lameness exam a neck & back examination involves a physical exam and examination in motion.
A physical exam involves flexion and extension tests and reflexes. There are 11 flexion & extension tests that are routinely done at Kleider Vet Services. These tests frequently localize the problem to a certain area.
A motion analysis is done watching the horse walk, trot/pace, canter and under tack. Each gait and test is useful to localize the problem area.
Digital radiography and fluoroscopy is used to assess the cervical (neck) and cranial thoracic (withers) areas and pinpoint problems.
Dr. Kleider is trained in advanced ultrasonography and examination of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and pelvic regions is done routinely.
